Presenting The World's Most Expensive Trainers

Over in New York City, what's alleged to be the world's most expensive pair of trainers has just been unveiled. A collaboration between New York lifestyle label Bicion and trainer designer Dan Gamache of Mache Custom Kicks, this new model - a custom riff on a Li-Ning Way of Wade 4 silhouette - has been dubbed "The Fire Monkey" in celebration of Chinese New Year.

The blue, white and gold flower pattern on the upper has been studded with hundreds of white diamond and sapphire pieces set in 18ct white gold (even down to the diamond-dipped aglets on the laces), as well as having a solid gold souvenir tag embossed with the two companies' logos hanging from the eyelets.

All this for a cool $4m (£2.7m). Talk about putting the 'luxe' in sportsluxe.

And if you're thinking of treating yourself, there's nothing to feel guilty about; proceeds from the sale will be donated to Soles4Souls, a non-profit organisation which aims to combat poverty through the collection and distribution of clothing. Place your bids now, sneakerheads.
